Starting a day after the close of the 2015 CIBJO Congress, participants are invited to join a three-day mine tour in the State of Bahia. It will depart from Salvador on Thursday, May 7, 2015, and returning to Salvador on Sunday, May 10, 2015.

Participant will fly to Lençóis, adjacent to the Chapada Diamantina National Park, which in the 19th Century was the site of a significant diamond rush. During their stay in the area, they will be housed at the Hotel de Lençóis.

The stunningly beautiful area, which is steeped in mining history, is also the site of golden rutilated quartz mines, which also will be visited, as will to the town of Novo Horizonte and the village of Remedios in the heart of the region. Remedios dates to the mid 1600s, and was originally settled by gold prospectors.

The tour to mines led by Brian Cook, a geologist involved in the region, and long-time resident of Bahia.

Arrival at hotel. Evening lecture by local expert.

Friday, May 8

Early departure by van to Novo Horizonte, BA. Visit mines . Return to Lençóis by early evening.

Saturday, May 9

Day to explore and enjoy Lençóis and the Chapada Diamantina National Park.

Sunday, May 10

Flight: Lençóis- Salvador

The cost per participant is U.S. $850. It includes flight tickets, hotel expenses (including breakfast), tours and tour guides, airport transfers and a buffet dinner on Thursday, May 7.
